Answers for Wumi Deareast

Who is this "supposed" building for?

The building is specifically geared towards immigrants who live in the Lavapies district who have a very limited understanding of the Spanish language, thus are limited to what employment they can get. But it has other functions so it can be used by any of the population in Lavapies who think they benefit from this free scheme.

What is its purpose?

These building has 3 main purposes; firstly to educate the immigrant and local population about business, language and communication skills. Secondly to try and improve the jobs that people could get, by introducing them to a job centre type area and Thirdly to give a place for the site to be overseen, secured and make sure it is generally kept in a safe and clean state. By putting the site admin on the third floor with an elevated view over the site this should hopefully work in the same way that an aircraft control tower does.

What is this building providing for the area? (immediate and surrounding)

Refer to the first two for immediate. For the surrounding area it lets the rest of Madrid know that something is being done about this infamously dangerous area, and in time they be able to return in safety. The population in other districts are more than welcome to utilise the facilities on site, our aim is to reach out to the immigrants and the unemployed, improve their way of life and not to just gentrify another open area for tourist but provide a real service and amenity.

Who runs it? (Government, Private, sponsors?)

Refer to Estebans answer below [Madrid ayuntamiento funds the building to reassure the people of lavapies that they are not forgotten. madrid ayuntamiento are in floor 3]

Who's gonna fund it?

[Madrid Ayuntamiento funds the building to reassure the people of lavapies that they are not forgotten. Madrid Ayuntamiento are in floor 3]

How does it make revenue?

The building makes revenue by taking a small percentage of the profits (and only the profits, so if a seller breaks even then Madrid Ayuntamiento takes nothing) also there may be a creating the cover between the two buildings with a view to utilising a new solar power technology which in effect, uses a large dish covered with mirrors and focuses light onto a single ultra conductive panel only 20cm squared. This generates 1500 watts per 20cm panel therefore the money saved on electricity would counteract the revenue made. [video beneath] Thoughts on that anyone?

Is it advantageous to da ppl who live in da area?

Yes as it provides services and is not just a gentrification scheme.

Building water, plumbing, electricity and building material?

Materials: Steel Frame Structure [may use the legs from the outside piercing through the building and use them as the structural elements internally as well i.e. Toyo Ito Sendai Mediatheque], with probably suspended ceilings and stud walling. The facade is a mix between glass [coloured or not] and a material to be decided, maybe the coloured film?

Does it tie in with the surrounding buildings? or does is stand out as a statement of change?

Hopefully it stands out in both sense’s. Physically and socially it stands out as a beacon, to be used by the population of Lavapies and the surrounding neighbourhoods as a place of learning, financial improvement and social rehabilitation.
